So, in 2022, will the housing market crash or slow down? Most experts believe that if you’re a prospective first-time purchaser hoping or praying for a price drop in 2022, don’t bank on it. It’s unlikely that prices will fall if consumers wait for them to do so. Many real estate analysts anticipate healthy price increases of 4 to 6% in 2022.

Price increases in the double digits and heated multiple-offer situations seen in 2020 and 2021 are likely to be a thing of the past. The pace will decrease, and most experts estimate home sales to drop by three percent from last year, resulting in fewer transactions but not the double-digit explosive price growth that we saw last year. Fannie Mae’s Economic and Strategic Research department indicated in a recent study that it anticipates housing activity to decrease from its highs in 2021. Due to the limits imposed by rising mortgage rates, they expect single-family house sales to fall 2.4 percent in 2022, which is slightly higher than the previously forecasted 1.2 percent loss.
