River bank: Billionaires re-list Midtown duplex for $20M

Real Estate

Billionaire banker/philanthropist Evelyn de Rothschild, 89, and his wife, Lynn Forester de Rothschild, 66, have listed their River House duplex at 432 E. 52nd St. for $20 million — more than its $15.75 million ask in 2020 but down from its $22.5 million ask in 2019.

The 18th- and 19th-floor co-op was designed by Michael S. Smith — and comes with a hefty $20,196 a month in maintenance fees. At 7,000 square feet, the duplex features six bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

There’s a chef’s kitchen, a library, a great room, formal dining room, sun room with a terrace, a woodburning fireplace and an “elegant” staircase that leads to the private floor.

That’s where the main bedroom suite can be found with its own sitting room and East River views.

Chichi amenities in the building include use of the residents-only River Club, where you might spot neighbors like Uma Thurman and Henry Kissinger.

The club boasts three squash courts, two tennis courts, a gym, pool, library, dining room, bar, ballroom and guest rooms.

The 22-story Art Deco building was designed by architects Bottomley, Wagner and White.

It was built in 1931 by James Stewart.

The listing brokers are Kathleen M. and Curtis Sloane, of Brown Harris Stevens.
