Hawaii’s most popular Airbnb listing isn’t a beach retreat or an estate, but a little hideaway above it all.
The most wish-listed Airbnb in the Aloha State is a small but idyllic treehouse built into a living kukui nut tree, Travel + Leisure reported. The 500-square-foot, $429 per night escape is located in the town of Kailua-Kona, on Hawaii’s Big Island, and features sweeping Pacific Ocean views and three acres of lush property.
“Your childhood dream of having a decked-out treehouse just came true!” the Airbnb listing for the digs reads.
The recently built, hand-crafted space features live tree trunks growing through its center, a full kitchen with custom mango wood cabinets and a wrap-around lanai leading into the single bedroom, which has one king-size mango wood bed, an indoor four-person hot tub, a washing machine and Wi-Fi.
The apartment is 15 feet off the ground, and the area is at an elevation of 1,800 feet.
Outside, more than 200 fruit trees grow on the property, and guests are allowed eggs from the chicken coop and, depending on the season, fresh tropical fruit.
Despite having a remote, pastoral appeal, the rental is in fact located 15 minutes from downtown Kona and 10 minutes from Kona International Airport.
“Your childhood dream of having a decked-out treehouse just came true!” the Airbnb listing reads. Actual children, however, are not welcome: “Although we love welcoming our families with little ones to our other properties, this home is not suited for children,” the listing notes.
Fans better prepare to plan in advance, as the property is unavailable through late March, with only a smattering of bookable dates left for the summer.
Hawaii, also known as the Rainbow State, is currently trying to model itself as a remote-work paradise, luring those with the freedom to toil from anywhere with free round trips for temporary stays with its “Movers and Shakers” residency program.
